THE LAWS OF ROBOTICS : The First Law : A robot cannot harm a human being and cannot be innactive when a human being is exposed to danger. The Second Law : A robot must obey the orders given by the human being as long as these orders do not contradict the first law. The Third Law : A robot must protect its own existence as long as by doing so it does not contradict the first or the second law. Isaac Asimov
RobotiqueFF was one of the first robotics clubs in Romania and we participated for the first time at EUROBOT in 2004. The members of the "Robotics Club - French Stream" - RobotiqueFF are students of the Faculty of Engineering in Foreign Languages and of other faculties from the "Politehnica" University of Bucharest. They have knowledge in electronics, mechanics, programming and 3D Graphics, necessary for the realization of the club’s projects. The robotics club is connected to ASAFF (The Association of Students and Alumni of the French Stream) and was founded by students passionate about robotics. This club whishes to be a tool for the future engineers interested in this field by offering them the material base on which to practice their theoretical knowledge acquired during courses. We basically have fun building robots.

Some late news about our participation at the RObotX 2009 competition, organized by ASAFF with help from “Politehnica” University of Bucharest, The Universitary Franchophone Agency, The Cooperation and Cultural Action Service of the French Embassy in Romania and the company PTC This competition represents the national stage of qualification for the EUROBOT autonomus robots competition. This year the competition attained its highes number of participants: 13 teams from all over Romania, of which 7 of them managed to homologate their robots; this year’s theme was a complex one: “The Temples of Atlantis”.
For those of you who don’t know, in this competition, the robot is placed on the table together with his opponent and once the referee gives the start, it is then started by pulling a string connected to the robot’s starting block. From there on the robot is all alone in trying to accomplish the task at hand and in the same time avoiding the other robot; it is autonomous – it guides itself by the software made by the team’s programmers, uses the mechanic and electrical systems installed by the mechanical and electrical engineering students, all this taking place on the platform chassis made by the teams blue print designer. Of course the roles interchange often and all through the building process we all had something to learn from each other.
This year the robot had to build complex structures from wooden elements found in predefined configuration on the game table. After picking up the wooden pucks the robot needed to place them in complex structures resembling towers or “temples” on certain areas on the game table. For different types of structures there would be rewarded a different number of points decided by the 3 referees. Every team played once with every team.
Although we weren’t in the first 3 teams, our team is proud of the fact that it bravely succeeded to hold its own against the branded teams from the Faculty of Computer Science and Automation from “Politehnica” University of Bucharest. All in all we found out that for our Bucharest based teams it will take a lot of hard work to get in the first 3 spots. The podium was occupied by the following:
Results RObotX 2009 First Place - EA BEARS (77 puncte) - Sibiu Second Place - ROBOSIB (74 puncte) - Sibiu Third Place - TRANSROB (43 puncte) - Brasov Their work and successes yet again this year ( ROBOSIB won First Place in 2008 ) inspires us an sends us back to the drawing board with only one goal in the future: to bring back to Bucharest the CUP from Sibiu - and preferably in the hands of the RobotiqueFF team.
